SEVERN Trent’s Community Fund is celebrating its second year of funding by looking back at the charity and community projects it’s supported across Worcestershire this past year.
The fund has awarded £273,452 to six projects in the county alone which will have a huge impact on the communities they serve.
Severn Trent’s Community Fund was created for community groups and projects that aim to improve community well-being and supports projects which help people lead a healthier life and gain new skills, ones which create better places to live in and use and which look after the environment.
In 2020, Severn Trent committed to awarding more than £10million over five years, and has appointed an independent Community Fund Panel made up of its customers who decide where the money goes.
Over the past 12 months it has awarded grants to variety of local projects including a £10,000 award to Severn Arts – an independent arts charity which brings experiences such as music, arts and festivals to people across Worcestershire to join in with.
The grant will enable the charity’s ‘Music Box’ to travel across Worcestershire to 15 locations, delivering music-making experiences to young people. The travelling music bus which includes a vocal booth, mixing desk, portable digital music-making equipment, and a variety of instruments.
The charity engages with 5,500 young people each week, leads Worcestershire’s Music Education Hub and teaches music in and out of schools whilst also delivering an arts programme county-wide.
Debbie Fawcett, Severn Arts director of learning said: “Our Music Box offers a range of musical opportunities from music jams to electronic drumming and DJ and vocal sessions.

“We’ve been lucky enough to support some fantastic projects from travelling music buses, right through to grass roots community schemes, all of which will make a big difference.”
