Students and engineering company work together to create artwork for Bromsgrove

GROUP of art students have worked together with an engineering company to design ideas for a life-sized steel sculpture to be displayed in Bromsgrove.

The Heart of Worcestershire College’s (HoW College) Art and Design students began the project with Lister in March, designing concepts for the tubular steel sculpture.

The company’s chief executive has selected six designs to be put forward to the council for consideration, with the winning designs set to be created and displayed in various locations around Redditch and Bromsgrove.

Commenting on the quality of the students work, CEO Peter Davies, said: “The students demonstrated very strong technical skills in producing the models and obviously put a lot of thought and care into their designs.

“The standard of work was so high that, even though we could only select a few to take forward at this stage, we truly considered them all great pieces of art.”

Level 2 Art and Design student, Lewis Dyer said: “This project has allowed me to use a multitude of different methods and techniques such as spray painting.

“It has also given me the experience of working with a client which will be useful in later life.”
