Toby Hughes was the outstanding winner of last year's Bromsgrove International Competition for Young Musicians. He astounded everyone with his virtuosity on an instrument which is not often heard as a solo instrument. This is a splendid opportunity to hear what the double bass can do spanning the centuries from Bottesini to Hindemith, Schubert and Dvořák to Frank Proto.
