Step on Board Appalachian – Brandon Marsh Wassail

Brandon Marsh Nature Centre, Brandon Lane, Nr. Coventry, Warwickshire, CV3 3GW

Wassailing in the Orchard

Help us to awaken our orchard trees, scare away the evil spirits, with dancing and songs to the health of the trees.

Watch local Morris Dancers including Bromsgrove's own STEP ON BOARD, in the courtyard before we visit the orchard for the wassail.

Children's crafts are also available throughout the day. Donations for children's crafts are appreciated to cover material costs.

Did you know: the word wassail comes from the Old Norse "vas heil" and Old English "was hal", literally "be you healthy". It refers both to the salute "Waes Hail" and to the drink of wassail, a hot mulled cider traditionally drunk as park of wassailing; a medieval drinking ritual to ensure a good cider apple harvest.
