Bromsgrove Folk Club : James Keelaghan and Ruth & Ken Powell

One of the advantages of the pandemic (yes, there are some) is that we can attract and feature artists, and indeed viewers, from around the world and Thursday 25th March is one of those nights

James Keelaghan…..acknowledged as one of Canada’s finest singer-songwriters by one of the most respected and lauded music journalists of the last 50 years, is an artist who has proven to be a man for all seasons.

His masterful storytelling, and his recordings, have been part of the bedrock of his success, earning Keelaghan more than his share of nominations and awards, and acclaim from  Australia to Scandinavia. His performance style is relaxed and audience friendly…and he has a rich voice to die for!

James has, over the years, been a regular performer at Bromsgrove…both the Club and the Festival…. and he is careful to let us know whenever he heads to these shores from his native Canada. We love him and he loves us…….“I look forward to playing Bromsgrove anytime I see it on my UK tour itinerary–always a great time, a ton of laughs, great people. I’m happy to be part of their virtual club. Can’t wait until I can see them all again for real!”

Ruth and Ken Powell….provide a superb combination of songs from the 1930s to traditional folk song and English/American contemporary music beautifully played and sung, including the odd song written by their sometime touring companion Dave Walmisley (Other Roads) with whom they still go out as Risky Business.

Plus we have our usual features…a song from Fairfield/MamwiG, the “Introducing” slot and, of course, the raffle (congratulations to Patrick Laura-mae Burke for winning the last one!) and a feature from Chris’s Corner.. not to mention the Interlude and our own Geoff Hawkesworth  as compere.

What fun we shall have!!
