A fascinating programme of music written during the Two World Wars and an opportunity to hear some rarely heard quartets by composers with very distinctive styles and their musical reactions to the wars they experienced – Delius’ nostalgia, Vaughan Williams anguish, a plea for peace from the Cezch composer Suk and Shostakovich’s journey from innocence to elegy.
