    Richard Jenkinson - Conductor

    Claire Prewer - Soprano

    Charlotte Moseley - Violin

    Sibelius Violin Concerto

Rhapsodic, lyrical, rhythmic, tender, but with gritty dissonances, this concerto is a unique example of the violin concerto genre. It not only demands extreme virtuosity but much physical stamina as the whole compass of the violin is engaged and explored. Charlotte Moseley presents this concerto in her home town of Bromsgrove.

    Mahler Symphony no 4

Gustav Mahler’s wondrous Symphony no 4 shows all the characteristics of his distinctive vision: his love of nature, grotesque humour, scintillating orchestration, integration of song, and abstract instrumentals.  Claire Prewer's soprano role illustrates a child's vision of heaven.  This is Mahler's deeply personal art, but being the shortest of his symphonies, it is at once accessible, yet deeply affecting.

Appointed Scots Makar – the National Poet for Scotland – in 2011, Liz Lochhead is both transgressive and popular; as Anne Varty wrote, ‘her work is that of one woman speaking to many,  and one person speaking for many’

The radio as much as the theatre has been an impetus to creation for Lochhead, and it is her ability to speak with conversational intimacy within a public space that is one of the hallmarks of her work. The sound of her own voice is immediately engaging. Her relish of a whole variety of language registers and rhythms, her sensuality and humour, her loving descriptions – ‘the decency of good coats roundshouldered’ – and her outspokenness have made Lochhead an enormously popular poet.

John Connoly is probably best know for writing the folk classics Fiddlers Green and Punch and Judy Man, epics from many an aspiring singer's songbag. However, John is an experienced and accomplished performer who entertains, sometimes a tad irreverently, with both traditional and others of his, to some less well known, songs coupled with hilarious/poignant/retrospective comments about life in general.

He hails from out Grimsby way and has written many songs, both serious and humorous, about the subjects he sees around him. A thoroughly entertaining night is in prospect from a true National Treasure who we see all to rarely in this area.

    What fun we shall have!!
